FINAL PAY FOR DEFERRED MEMBERS

This is usually the pay you paid pension contributions on during:

  • your final year of scheme membership, OR
  • one of the previous two years if higher OR
  • the average of any 3 consecutive years pensionable pay in the last 10 years ending on a    31 March (plus RPI from the end of the 3 year period) - provided you have had either; restricted pay, a reduction in grade or moved to a position with less responsibility
Please Note
If you cease membership on or after 1 April 2008 and have an absence, a strike break or change employer in your last 365 days of employment your final pay will be calculated as follows:

ACTUAL PENSIONABLE PAY RECEIVED IN THAT EMPLOYMENT IN LAST CALENDAR YEAR x 365/NUMBER OF DAYS ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP IN LAST 365

This pay includes:
  • normal pay
  • shift allowance
  • contractual bonus
  • contractual overtime
  • maternity pay, paternity pay, adoption pay, and
  • any other taxable benefit specified in your contract as being pensionable.
Your pensionable pay does NOT include:

  • payments for non-contractual overtime
  • any travelling, subsistence or other allowance paid in respect of expenses incurred in relation to the employment
  • any payment in consideration of loss of holidays
  • any payment in lieu of notice to terminate your contract of employment
  • any payment as an inducement not to terminate your employment before the payment is made.

Part-Timers

If you work part-time when you leave the LGPS, or have worked part-time in your last year of membership, your final pay is the whole-time pay that you would have received, if you had worked whole-time.

Period of Illness

If your pay was reduced during the final pay period because of illness or injury, your final pay will be the pay that you would have received had you not been absent from work.
