SURVIVOR'S PENSIONS

For Widows

 
 
Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership* x 1/160
= Annual Survivor's Pension
If an active member dies in service, their surviving widow is entitled to a Survivor's Pension.
 
*This is the total membership the deceased would have had if they had retired on Tier 1 ill-health grounds on the day they died. 

 

For Widowers

 
Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership from 6 April 1988*
x 1/160
= Annual Survivor's Pension
If an active member dies in service, their surviving widower is entitled to a Survivor's Pension.
 
*This is the total membership the deceased would have had if they had retired on Tier 1 ill-health grounds on the day they died. 

 

For Registered Civil Partners
 
Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership
x 1/160
= Annual Survivor's Pension
If an active member dies in service, their surviving registered civil partner is entitled to a Survivor's Pension.
 
*This is the total membership the deceased would have had if they had retired on Tier 1 ill-health grounds on the day they died. 

 
For Nominated Cohabiting Partners
 
Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership from 6 April 1988*
x 1/160
= Annual Survivor's Pension
If an active member dies in service, their surviving nominated cohabiting partner is entitled to a Survivor's Pension.
 
*This is the total membership the deceased would have had if they had retired on Tier 1 ill-health grounds on the day they died. However members living with a nominated cohabiting partner, can choose to pay additional contributions to make any Scheme membership they have before 6 April 1988 count. If additional payments are not made, only membership from 6 April 1988 onwards will be used in the calculation of an eligible survivor’s pension.
